In the 1940s, Harry Gault, aka ‘Dirty Harry’, was a local independent logger, a ‘gyppo’ logger, who gained a reputation for relentless logging in the Snoqualmie area of Washington State. He built roads and logged trees in places thought by other loggers to be too inaccessible to attempt. Dirty Harry’s Museum features his abandoned GMC logging truck at its final resting place about 2.9 miles and 1,893 of elevation gain up an unsigned and unmaintained forest trail that forks off of the recently improved Dirty Harry’s Peak Trail. The truck is a GMC CCKW, also known as “Jimmy’ or the G-508 by the military ordinance supply catalog. It was an off road capable 2-1/2 ton 6x6 military truck built from 1941 to 1945. Dirty Harry’s truck is fitted with a logging boom.

A 400' aerial view over Windigo Pass, Oregon. The road is vehicle friendly approaching from the south but is worse on the north end. Views of the top of Mt. Thielsen, Mt. Bailey, & nearby Cowhorn Mountain. Here one can access the Pacific Crest Trail to which a small kiosk of water jugs, maps, & other accessories are freely left for long-distance hikers making the entire trail trek.

Gigapixel view from the summit of Diamond Peak (elev. 8,744'), an eroded volcano near Odell Lake, Oregon. The summit sits above treeline & yields fantastic views of the Cascade Range, w/ north views of the Three Sisters area, Broken Top, Mount Bachelor, Newberry Caldera, Mount Jefferson, & even Mt. Hood (only the top was visible in clouds). To the south one can see nearby Cowhorn & Sawtooth Mountains, Howlock Mountain, Mount Thielsen, Mount Bailey, Crater Lake Rim, Union Peak, & Mount McLoughlin. Two cirques are found on the northwest side of the mountain that had glaciers until very recently, w/ only tarns & glacial scouring lines visible now. It was a popular day for hikers on the mountain w/ an easy approach from Summit Lake to the south, though the summit can be accessed from any direction. Gigapixel panorama (1.420 gigapixels), 253 photos, 53300x26650 pixels

The panorama shows probably the most spectacluar NLCs of the 2020 season in Hungary taken from next to the village of Kospallag in the Borzsony mountain area in Hungary. Opposing the NLCs the full Moon started to apper climbing just above the horizon.

The church of St Nicholas was originally built in 1073 as a church or chapel for the adjacent Bramber Castle. The building retains many of its original Norman features, such as the nave and its south door, and the crossing with its Norman carvings. It became a parish church in the 13th century. The tower was added during a substantial renovation programme in the 18th century.

The scant remains of a substansial Norman motte and bailey castle, perched on a high natural knoll overlooking the River Adur. It was built in 1075, by William de Braose, as one of a number of defensive and administrative centres to enforce regional control following the Norman Conquest. The castle was later seized by King John, who imprisoned Lady de Braose and her two sons. Their death from starvation fuelled the Barons revolt that lead to the Magna Carta.
