Built over three centuries, the Cath'edrale primatiale Notre-Dame de l’Assomption de Rouen is a Gothic masterpiece. It was the place where the Dukes of Normandy were traditionally crowned and several are buried in the cathedral, including the heart of Richard I of England, also known as Richard the Lion Heart. It also contains the tomb of Rollo, the founder and first ruler of the Viking principality that became known as Normandy. Other famous graves include the tomb of John of Lancaster, Duke of Bedford, who is considered responsible for the death of Joan of Arc. The new Lady Chapel was built in 1360. The cathedral has the tallest church spire and the oldest recumbent tomb statue in France. Some stained glass windows date from the early-13th century. They have survived fire, a hurricane, lightning strikes, several wars of religion, the French Revolution, and two world wars. The latter is in part due to them being removed to safe storage during WW2, when parts of the building were badly damaged by bombing.

The Pesapuu watchtower is 30 meters high (the top observation platform is 27 meters from the ground) and it resembles a tree with two birdnests. Karmo T~ora, an architect, is the author of the idea. The watchtower is eye-catching during both the day and the night. At night, lights of different colours are turned on to shed light on the so-called birdnests or observation platforms and the so-called golden egg on the top of the tower.Tourists that reach the top are offered picturesque views of the Nightingale Valley and the rest of V~oru County. Pesapuu is opened around-the-clock.

Discover tiles from the period of historicism, art nouveau and art deco. Look at Dutch jewelry tiles from four centuries. (On permanent loan from the Ludwig Foundation) We show you a collection of the most beautiful tiles from the production of the panel factory founded in Boizenburg in 1903. We emphasize the cultural importance of the industrially manufactured tile and want to make the artistic and technical value recognizable. Our house, in the middle of the old town, bears the name of the co-founder and tile artist Lothar Scholz. We pay tribute to this exceptional artist with an exhibition about his life's work. We have a library with specialist books and illustrated books on the artistic design of tiles from several centuries and countries. The tile museum is a special cultural site of international importance. The tile exchange takes place here every year. More Information at: http://www.jugendstilfliesen-museum.de/
