Exchequer Gate is one of three arched gateways leading to the cathedral precinct in Lincoln. It was built in the 14th century during the reign of Edward I. As a place where church tenants came to pay their rent, the name is thought to derive from the chequered cloth that was used to help in the counting of monies.
