Ravenscraig Castle sits on a high rocky promontory overlooking the Firth of Forth. It was intended as a residence for Queen Mary of Gueldres, wife of King James II of Scotland. However, within months of the start of construction in 1460 the king was killed at the siege of Roxburgh when one his own artillery pieces exploded. His widow continued to spend money on construction but it remained unfinished by the time it was given to William Sinclair by King James III in 1470. The Sinclairs transformed it from a royal residence into a fortress with very thick walls for defence against artillery. The castle was taken and damaged by Cromwell's army in 1650. It remained under Sinclair ownership until the end of the 19th century.

Ruthven Barracks is one of a number of security measures put in place by King George II during the War of the British Succession, better known as the Jacobite rebellions. They were built after the rising of 1715 to garrison British Army soldiers to enforce the Disarming Act of 1716. Built high on a strategic mound in the Scottish Highlands that can be seen from miles around, the barracks could house two companies of soldiers – about 120 men – and their officers. It saw military action during the 1745 Jacobite rising with 12 redcoats withstanding a siege by 300 Jacobites. It fell the following year and became a rallying point for defeated Jacobites after the Battle of Culloden in 1746.

These unassuming holes are some the few surviving reminders of a 12th century Augustinian Priory that once stood inside the grounds of Portchester Castle. The feature, which is integrated into the Roman-built defensive wall, are the garderobe chutes that formed part of a reredorter. This is the name given to the communal toilet in mediaeval monasteries. Waste material simply fell into the water to be carried away by the tide. Such a facility  was regraded as most hygienic in the medieval period.

Portchester Castle lies at the head of Portsmouth Harbour. It was first identified as a strategic strongpoint by the Romans who built a series of coastal forts, known as the Forts of the Saxon Shore, during the 3rd century to protect against Saxon pirates. Some 800 years later, the Normans integrated the building of the castle into the existing Roman defences, making the site one of the best-preserved Roman forts in northern Europe.

Persephone's fountain is in disrepair, but its plaza offers wonderful views over the gardens and the countryside, and lets you get close to Little Rome.

On a clearer day it would have been possible to see Rome  from here.  This fountain, one of hundreds at Villa d'Este in Tivoli, is a pastiche of the sights of the Eternal City in the early 18th century.

The Great Market Hall or Central Market Hall (Hungarian "Nagyv'as'arcsarnok") is the largest and oldest indoor market in Budapest, Hungary. The idea of building such a large market hall arose from the first mayor of Budapest, K'aroly Kamermayer, and it was his largest investment.
