Inside Flat Arch Cave in Lava Beds National Monument near Tulelake, California.  The cave has high ceilings but only goes roughly 600 feet within.  There is a nice pathway cleared as well as an original stairwell near the entrance installed during the days of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) of the 1930s.  There was easier access to this cave back then but now it is mostly forgotten w/ maybe ten visitors a year.

Hanaus Kollosalbau am Hafenplatz Um Wohnungen f"ur die Besch"aftigten des Hafens zu schaffen, wurde 1924, an der Zufahrt zum Hafengel"ande, der kompakte Block mit der markanten Durchfahrt errichtet. Standing underneath Guano Bridge in Lava Beds National Monument near Tulelake, California.  There are a series of collapsed lava tube pits w/ this particular section still standing intact as a long tunnel.  The lighting effects through such entrances are always eye-catching.  I didn't add a scale but the ceiling height is maybe 20-30 feet up & the tunnel is about 500 feet long.  Lots of tumbleweed & bird feathers, the sound of roosting pigeons, & carved sand features.

Mammoth Cave is a lava tube near Tionesta, California.  I've been here about five times & have never fully explored it, though I've heard it has about 1.59 miles of passages.  The cave itself has high ceilings initially but then it becomes a continuous crawling maze of intricate passageways through wet mud & ropy pahoehoe.  This is the first main junction room yielding a beautifully colored passageway w/ old pahoehoe flows covered in sand on the floor, intricate cracks and golden hydrophobic bacteria on the ceiling.  All the small holes in the sand are from water droplets falling off the small lavacicles on the ceiling - each droplet carries small amounts of sand particles which as you can see has filled up a lot of the passageways.  A visit in January 2015 I got extremely disoriented deep inside & lost for about 45 minutes as I kept repeating my tracks before remembering that the entrance is higher up & the cave itself gradually slopes downwards in elevation.  From there I was able to find my way out.  This next time that I visited seven months later, there was a dead dog exactly where I had gotten lost last time, there was nothing but dog tracks everywhere & it eventually died of starvation in there.

The Polish House (Polish: Dom Polski, Czech: Polsk'y Dum) has been built since 1989 to 1994 thanks to the efforts of the local club of the Polish Cultural and Educational Union (Polish: Polski Zwiazek Kulturalno-O'swiatowy, PZKO) and also thanks to many volunteers and sponsors, to serve the Polish minority in the Czech part of Silesia. The Polish House is located nearby the memory park commonly called "Zwirkowisko", which commemorates the famous Polish airmen Zwirko and Wigura, who died here in their plane crash in 1932. One part of the Polish House is an exhibition hall, where some mementoes and documents concerning these Polish airmen are on exhibit. Inside this building there is also a large hall with a stage, where many different performances, cultural events and also parties can be organized, and in the basement, there is located a club called "IKAR", which is arranged like an air force officers’ mess.

Skylight opening to Jungle Forest Cave in Lava Beds National Monument near Tulelake, California.  Below the arid desert landscape there are a few caves w/in the monument that retain their own climate to house naturally growing coastal ferns.  These ones adorn the floor & walls, unphased by the above environment (earlier this morning it dropped to about 15*F outside).  This is the only entrance to the cave, a 12 foot skylight opening  w/ a 45 foot vertical drop only accessible by ropes & technical gear.  Back during the CCC days, a stairwell was built all the way to the bottom as well as the cleared path that you can see leading off into the cave.  A few pigeons were making noise as they were roosting along the cave walls.
