The site of La Grande Chaloupe, located between Saint-Denis and La Possession on R'eunion Island, is a protected natural area recognized as part of the World Heritage for its unique biodiversity. The area features several hiking trails, such as the historic Chemin des Anglais, as well as remnants of R'eunion’s old railway. Among the emblematic species of the local fauna, the papangue (or Maillard’s harrier), the only bird of prey endemic to R'eunion, frequently soars over the valley. This majestic bird, now a protected species, stands as a powerful symbol of the island’s remarkable biodiversity.
