The village is known for its stunning scenery, majestic mountains and pleasant climate. Famous for its mineral springs, which have been used for therapeutic purposes since the Middle Ages. A small resort, not far from the top of the pass of the same name, with its many trekking and winter sports opportunities. The San Bernardino Pass with its summit at 2066m, close to the beautiful mountain lake Moesola, connects the mainly German-speaking Central Swiss Alps with the Italian-speaking region of Switzerland. That is, the Posterior Rhine (Hinterrhein) in the north, in Grisons, to the Misox valley, also in Grisons, in the south. For eastern Switzerland, the Bernardino route is an alternative to the Gotthard Pass, as a route to Ticino. Since 1770, the road has been open to wheeled traffic and it was only between 1821 and 1832 that it was improved to ensure trade between the North and the South. In 1967, the San Bernardino Highway Tunnel on the parallel highway opened and drastically reduced traffic through the pass.
