Hi all. I'm a 25 year old girl living in a tiny apartment in Brooklyn and working in book publishing.

FYI, the vibe of my room is what I call ~modern Tim Burton sea creature.~ (The background being that I was a teenage goth and have never been able to fully shake that aesthetic.)

Please ignore the weird purple light. That is not a thing that actually happens in real life--just in this particular iPhone photo.

My desk. Mostly used for putting on makeup.

I love these plants because it delights me that I can keep other things alive.

I'm obsessed with candles. Also, my ankh necklace is visible here. Fifteen year old goth vibessss.

I did all of the paintings in my room (other than the Warhol Marilyns above my desk). The fish painting is framed, but everything else is done on canvas. One my more useful skills is knowing how to hang canvas paintings.

I painted this little guy when I was taking a class at RISD. This is actually pretty big, probably two feet by three feet.

I did this while totally high at a crafternoon (when I invite a bunch of friends over and we drink wine and do crafts on Saturday afternoons). I finished the whole thing in three hours, and I have no recollection of the process. This is huge. Like, three feet by four feet? I don't know.

My bookshelf/nightstand. In the tank is my betta fish, Ghostfish Killah. (GET IT?)

I bought these guys at Urban Outfitters. I know you can tell.

An old LJ friend actually made these for me YEARS ago. I've taken them everywhere. They're made of my old Hot Topic knee socks.

I have zero regrets about buying this weird skull candle.

I'm always ready to entertain.

I keep my paintings-in-progress in the corner. Along with a piggy bank shaped like a cupcake.

I hang all my bags because I have no space for them.

This is also something I did. It is very small--probably a foot across the top--and hangs above my dresser.

My dresser. I'm waiting for the combo CD player/radio to be as retro-hip as vinyl. Any day, now.

Please note how gigantic that teacup is. In the background is a watercolor I did of ~~Ophelia~~, based on a picture of Christina Ricci from the early aughts.

I'm so vain that I have a multi-tiered tacklebox of makeup. It keeps me organized.

Living in the attic of my girlfriend's childhood home — Finally happy with how things look!

Вторник, 21 Августа 2012 г. 04:55 + в цитатник
Lanni, 23, living in Rochester, NY.

This is my current living space. My girlfriend and I are living in her childhood bedroom at her mom's house. It's not ideal, but it's allowing us to save enough money to get started on our own.

You may remember me (if you've been here for a few years!) — I used to post a bit when I was in college. I deleted my account when I graduated, but my old posts are still up if you'd like to take a gander!

IMG_2821 IMG_2974 IMG_4458 IMG_4959 IMG_5529 IMG_5858 IMG_6570

On to the recent stuff!

Untitled
View of the "living area." The pink chair is my pride and joy — found it a few years ago on Craigslist.

Untitled
Bed. The prints above the bed were a first anniversary present from my girlfriend. The images are printed on old dictionary pages.

Untitled
Another view of the bed.

Untitled
My little side table. I love bird tchotchkes.

Untitled
The little shelf below my side table. Along with birds, I collect nesting dolls.

Untitled
I made this lamp for my girlfriend before we were dating. I found all the old slides in a house I was clearing out.

Untitled
Origami mobile!

Untitled
Some of our books. I literally have thousands, so these are just some of them, the rest are in storage.

Untitled
Looking from the bed across the room.

Untitled
The Closet-of-Doom (I'm 99% sure that hanger bar is going to break any day now) and our little faux vanity.

Untitled
Our desk. Well, really my desk, as I'm a fan of desk and the GF likes to set up on the bed. The chair was $3 at AmVets.

Untitled
View down the stairs a bit.

Untitled
Some stuff on the bookshelves.

Untitled
Some stuff on the bookshelves.

Untitled
Some stuff on the bookshelves.

Untitled
I love keys!

Untitled
View from the bottom of the stairs.

Untitled
I collect salt and pepper shakers as well.

Untitled
I put up this little clothes line to clip random things.

Untitled
We keep our socks and undies and stuff in those drawers. Our turtle Sandwich's tank sits on top.

Untitled
Sandwich! Our red-eared slider.

Untitled
Top of the desk.

Untitled
Little tree that I keep all my jewelry on. That little egg is where I keep my earrings ($1 at Goodwill!).

Untitled
View into the bathroom.

Untitled
Our vanity area.

Untitled
Rescued this mini piano from the side of the road. Some of the keys are broken, but it's still cute!

Untitled
View out the window. Nothing spectacular.

Untitled
I also collect globes. These are the small ones.

Untitled
Our sink.

Untitled
Brusha brusha brusha!

Untitled
View from the bathroom area.

Untitled
TV and stuff.

Untitled
More nesting dolls, more birds.

Untitled
Table next to the couch and chair.

Untitled
Hands down my favorite thrift find. It's a little records holder. $2 at AmVets!

Untitled
Cute table lamp, but we don't have any large enough tables, so it sits on the ground instead.

Untitled
Lit up!

Untitled
My girlfriend has little influence over our decor (MUHAHAHA), but she picked out the car pillow, and I like it!

Untitled
View of the desk and closet.

Untitled
My pink handbags and a view of the stairs.

Untitled
Another view of the top of the stairs.

Untitled
Found this awesome record player cabinet in a house I was cleaning out. (I realize that sounds like I am some sort of cat burglar, but in reality I assist my mom with cleaning out houses of people that have passed away to prepare for the estate sale—I get to take anything I can fit in my car!).

Untitled
Top of the faux vanity.

Untitled
Got the drawers from Goodwill for $.50. The Rubik's Cube tin was a gift from my little sister. The Keep Calm tin was a gift from my dad—I filled it with bandaids!

Untitled
Another view of the little piano.

Untitled
I bought this for my GF for Christmas last year. She's a biologist and a big fan of cephalopods.

Untitled
Itty bitty birdie salt and pepper shakers.

Untitled
We have very limited wall space (due to the slant of the ceilings), so we fill what we've got! The top photo was a print my GF gave me for my birthday a few years ago, the middle is a photo of us and her mom and aunt, and the bottom is a photo of my mom and her siblings.

Untitled
Some of my scarves.

Untitled
View of the bed from the top landing of the stairs.

Untitled
We have a clawfoot bathtub, but it's too awkward to take a bath in the middle of the bedroom, so we've filled it will pillows and manatee stuffed animals.

Untitled
The clawfoot tub. It still works, but we don't use it.

Untitled
I crammed the rest of my scarves in this cute leather suitcase from AmVets!

Thanks for looking!

I think it's time to get a new table cloth... i also moved the shaggy brown rug in here.

I still want to get a small crescent table in here someday. Or how about a little storage bench?

Photobucket
I rearranged the bedroom again last night. The last layout didn't look balanced enough to me so this is the end result. I also found a much better bedskirt to go with that comforter set at a thrift store for 1.50.

Photobucket
Contents of the dresser. couldn't get a photo of the whole hutch.

Photobucket
I think a painting and the pedestal looks a lot better in between two pieces of furniture.

A few tiny updates here and got a few things from Target...

Bathroom
Photobucket
Still the same since i moved in. it's so small, there's nothing much i can work with, but that's okay. at least it's functional unlike my old bathroom at mainview.

So this is the end result of working with this place for the past 3 months and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Perhaps I may get some new stuff down the road as far as furniture goes, but who knows at this point. I'm just happy that I can finally have a place to call... home.

Shilo, 22, California. I've posted once before here. Due to a heavy rainstorm back in October that caused my ceiling to cave in, I've been living in the guest room while my room is being repaired.

Posters waiting to be hung once my room is finished.

The plastic bag holds my Heart of the Ocean

Pictures of my family.

My mini collection of Star Wars vinylmations, mini Titanic, and random other stuff

Nightstand. Empty chocolate frog box(I got Rowena)that I use to store earphones, Sorcerer's Stone paperback and my favorite mug.

Obligatory kitty shot!

More posters and pictures. My mom's cosmetology licence that I don't have the heart to take down. She passed away in December.

I guess you could say I like Disney and superheroes.

Aurora toddler doll(My favorite princess is Aurora), Entertainment weekly from last year(so excited for The Amazing Spider-Man),a bath and body works candle, tart warmer and a picture of me with Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles of Supernatural.

Some of my movie collection, Mickey and Minnie as The Monster and Bride from The Bride of Frankenstein, 100th anniversary Titanic coin, Alvin and Simon and a lighter.

Closeup of my coin.

A 1966 Batmobile hotwheels, CD cases(I must one of the few that still buys CD's) and The Bride action figure.

Lily Munster action figure. I didn't bother to take a picture of the bottom shelf since it's a catch all shelf and my bed is in front of it.

The rest of my vinylmation collection and a rolled up flag from Medieval Times.

Bobbleheads, Obi-wan action figures, another vinylmation, Dr. Pepper collectible cans and my Draco wand is underneath them.

Body sprays and jewelry.

Perfumes, body sprays, candles and pens.

Ashlee thanks you looking!

lurker turned poster

Воскресенье, 17 Июня 2012 г. 22:27 + в цитатник
Hello! My name is Sugandha, a 21 year old med student living in Sydney, Australia. I've lurked around here rather long, and have always wanted to post but was never satisfied enough with my room to post... however my family is moving houses in about a week so I figured it's about time. Besides, I need to get a move on and start packing, so FINALLY took some (terrible) photos with my iPhone. Here it is :)

some wide-angle shots (iphone lenses are pretty fun)

the same IKEA bedsheets that everyone else has, not the biggest fan of the chair- hoefully can get a more aesthetically appealing one and that's Pancake on the bottom left, friends gave him to me on my 20th

Bookshelf, back of door with coat/bags/hats and closet on the left

Dressing area and another bookshelf, I'd intended to make that my "frame wall", didn't happen

DVDs/CDs and medical textbooks. don't have too many DVDs but have some of my favourites: Gilmore Girls boxset, Harry Potter DVDs, Darjeeling Limites, Steve Zissou, Amelie etc

Cute map of Lovedale, a small town in Australia's wine country- the Hunter Valley

Dresser

Bookshelf back in the day (this photo is from 2009), I organised my books by colour but have since accumulated a lot more books, and close-up time:

Harry Potter shelf!

journals, visual diaries and IKEA catalogues

top of the shelf, Frankie magazine collection under the globe and loads of postcards in a shoebox.

Desk space

used tea bags (had to do an art project involving 20 drawings of an object, I picked tea bags)

Hagrid clock! complete with his pink flowery umbrella

shelly on my lamp, got this in NZ (used to live in Auckland for 3 years before we moved to Sydney)

doily craft

any Nerdfighters around? DFTBA :) (if not, I urge you to Youtube vlogbrothers)

Wall*E

aaand, view of our front lawn from my window. 'tis winter time, thus the miserable weather

oooh, forgot to add a "me" photo, here I am in my habitat- as you can tell, this is a old photo since my room has evolved a fair bit since then.

If you'd like to become friends/follow, I don't use LJ much (read: at all) reserving it for looking through community posts (ourbedrooms, inmypurse and jr_nal) but you can find me on Tumblr/Pinterest/ Instagram
http://ladadidah.tumblr.com/
http://pinterest.com/ladadidah/ (doing pretty well here, 76 followers is probably the most I have, minus the spambots)
http://ink361.com/ladadidah

I'm currently watching 'Midnight in Paris' as I post this, but man uploading photos on LJ is a chore. It's quite possible I just don't know what I'm doing...

Anyhow, would love your comments/thoughts :)

I did some re arranging last night....

Пятница, 01 Июня 2012 г. 07:33 + в цитатник
Photobucket

Photobucket
I moved the drawer chest to the other side of the bed and moved the end table where the bookshelf used to be, which got moved to the 2nd bedroom. this chair is a little gem i found at a thrift shop nearby where I live for 5.00. great corner filler.

Photobucket
that purple garbage can has to go.

Photobucket
also took down the floral paintings and mirror, which didn't quite work.

Overall I'm really pleased with the progress with this room and it feels almost finished. It's my 2nd guest bedroom that needs a lot of work and I'm a little bit at loss on what to do with it... maybe I'll post that room some point in the near future.

Hope you liked the little tour! New friends are always welcome.

some previous posts:
01 & 02.

i've recently gotten rid of my bed frame and rearranged (and removed) some stuff in my room, so i took some new pictures.
i hate my wall color, so i will hopefully be repainting this summer.
and i really need some floating shelves because i have so many little collections and knick-knacks
to display that are unfortunately put away in my closet or spread around the rest of my house.
otherwise, i am happy with my room for now.
also, there are no close-ups of my books, because that would take forever! and 75% of them are U.S. history books anyways.

the view from the door

i got the copper wire art during a spring break trip to Taos, NM and it is probably my favorite thing in my room.
(as you can tell by the excessive amounts of pictures i took of it!)

all of the dreamcatchers in my room are handmade by me, though i think this is the only one you can see (most hang from the ceiling)

make-shift sort of altar, things change all the time on my altar, but it usually consists of mostly crystals.

the green man cloth is new and still has horrible fold marks, ahh.

this is why i need floating shelves, i have stuff sitting everywhere on every possible surface.

just a few of the CDs that i have been listening to lately, i also need somewhere to store CDs.

Welcome to my room! :)

Пятница, 04 Мая 2012 г. 21:18 + в цитатник
Hello everyone, I'm Patrizia and I'm from germany. I live in Erfurt, Thuringia. I'm 22 and study German language and literature and European History. I want to be a teacher someday. I share a flat with another girl. That's it for now. Welcome to my room!

The view when you enter my room. I got all the furniture from IKEA.

The left side of my room. All the rooms of our flat are one the sunnyside, we have bright rooms all day long. And you can see aswell, that I have a balcony.

My bed with an huge Audrey Hepburn-poster above it. I love her! My boyfriend applied the beautiful curtain over my bed. And yes, I'm 22, but never too old for a good old teddy bear in bed!

The right side of my room. As you can see, I'm a big fan of photography, music and books, too.

A close-up of my guitars. To bad, that I have not enough time to play, because of university.

Audrey Again and on the side of my bookshelf a gingerbread heart that my boyfriend gave me and a little butterfly from my best friend.

My bookshelf.

Some close-ups. On the left you can see a blue hand. My best friend made it for me, it's actually a candle. And in front you can see some kitschy snow globes.

More books and some other stuff, friends have given to me. "Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten" are a present aswell, because two years ago I left my hometown Bremen and move to Erfurt for my studies.

Books again and a lot of perfume.

Another shelf for all my DVD's and Magazines and some other stuff. Above it a pictureframe-collage of my friends, my boyfriend, family and cities and concerts I've been to.

DVD's and series. I really like nip/tuck, O.C. California and I absolutley adore One Tree Hill. Best tv-show ever!

All my NEON-magazines.

More DVD's.

On the shelf I storage make-up (in the tiny box to the left) and nail polish (in the tiny box to the right).

My desk. You can see some books for university ("Tristan"), a DVD (aswell for university), a Beatles-CD because I love old music, too, and my calender.

As I bought myself a new desk, I was looking for a desk with a lot of place to storrage, because I have so much stuff for university. And this one is just perfect.

you see? :)

My windowsill with Marilyn Monroe and some pretty flowers.

On my dresser I have all my jewellery and a box with postcards, letters, tickets, photos and stuff. I've got the roses from my boyfriend, because last tuesday we had our anniversary <3 I have a warddrobe, too, but it stands behind my door and I don't think it's that interesting :)

And the balcony. Next week I want to plant the balcony with some beautiful flowers.

That's it. Oh no, wait, just for the record. That's me (in pop art, haha):

I hope you enjoyed it :) Greetings from Germany :-*
