Kelly NEWS! |
Apparently, a new Kelly Rowland song called "Never Leave Me" is featured on the "Step Up 2" soundtrack: the song is featuring Tyrese!!
Kelly Rowland is enjoying her solo career but doesn’t dismiss a new album with Destiny’s Child in the future.
THE bootylicious Beyoncé Knowles didn’t quite make it to Malaysia this year as promised, but some lucky Malaysians who attended the inaugural ecoStyle Award ceremony in Kuala Lumpur still got a taste of hit American girl group Destiny’s Child when member Kelly Rowland made a surprise appearance.
“I know that Beyoncé would really want to perform here,” said Kelly in an interview in KL last weekend.

“One thing about all three of us (members of Destiny’s Child, including Michelle Williams) is the fact that we love our fans very much, and we’d like our fans to see something that they have helped put together.”
Well, Rowland didn’t perform in a full-fledged concert at the ecoStyle event, established to honour leading international designers for their stylish, environmentally-sustainable initiatives. In fact, she only sang three songs and while that wasn’t enough for the socialites and guests who started dancing at their dining tables, it was a showcase of her vocal prowess and a taste of what Malaysians could expect if Rowland were to hold a concert here.
“I would love to do a concert here in Malaysia,” she said. Rowland also hinted that Destiny’s Child could reunite for more new records and performances. The group had split in 2005 to allow its members to concentrate on their solo careers. When asked if she would collaborate with an Asian artiste, she was very receptive.
“That’s something I’d love to explore, it’s something I’ve never done before,” she exclaimed. “Maybe Destiny’s Child could do it. Who knows? That would be really cool.”
But until then, she is happy to stand on her own.
“I love being with Destiny’s Child, but I love being on stage by myself as well,” the 26-year-old admitted.
“I think it has been good for me growing up ... where my womanhood is concerned, it’s about doing everything on my own. I think that’s part of growing and that’s a really important period.”
As a solo artiste, Rowland appears to be going down a more personal and private route, when it comes to her music. After having won over the hearts of mainstream fans with Destiny’s Child (along with a few Grammy Awards), there is no time like the present for Rowland to dig deep for inspiration. Her second solo album released earlier this year, Ms Kelly, features numerous songs co-written by Rowland herself and will be re-released in March 2008 with several new songs.
“Oh gosh, I expose a lot of myself on (Ms Kelly). I have a song on the album titled I’m Still In Love With My Ex, about when I was about to get married – I’m not anymore, thank God. But I remember when I wrote it, I told myself, ‘Kelly, you’re saying quite a lot’,” she explained. But for her, this is the way it has got to be, especially after the success of a group like Destiny’s Child.
“I think that it’s important to remain human because you are always glamorised ... people always want to know your business or they don’t think you’re human. I think it is important on songs to remain vulnerable, to let people know I feel what you feel, I feel the pain. We bleed the same way too!” Rowland said.
A solo career has also given Rowland the chance to explore her other interests, such as acting. In 2004, she starred in romantic comedy, The Seat Filler. A year before, she had a supporting role in thriller Freddy vs Jason. She has also made appearances on television, most notably in TV series The Hughleys and Girlfriends.
Rowland’s latest venture, Clash of the Choir, will air next Monday in the United States. The TV reality show will pit Rowland against four other music veterans, including Nick Lachey, Michael Bolton and Patti LaBelle, as each heads to their respective hometowns to create a choir group, and compete against each other.
“It’s a lot of pressure and you want to make sure you’re ‘on’ every day. You need to stay positive, which has been quite easy to do for my choir,” she said. “I have many talented men and women who have come from all walks of life ... I must say, I really feel like we’re going to win this competition!”
Rowland revealed that her choir’s repertoire would include Destiny’s Child’s Survivor as well as George Michael’s Freedom.
“I’m so excited because I feel like all the choices we’ve made for the songs have been great, and I hope everyone in Malaysia has the chance to see it here as well.”
