FAQ (Please read this before IMing me. I get tons of IMs/e-mails/comments asking me the same questions over and over. Even if these questions do not directly relate to my photography, I figured I'd just answer them here.)
Q: What kind of camera do you use? Is it worth the money?
A: Canon EOS Digital Rebel (20d). And yes, it is worth every penny. I only use the kit lens (18-55). If someone wants to buy me a wide angle lens, that would be great.
Q: What settings do you use on your camera?
A: Settings depend on what you're shooting. Slower shutter speeds for live band shots. I try not to use the flash as much as possible.
Q: Mac or PC? What programs do you use?
A: PC (I wish it was a Mac); Photoshop CS2. Illustrator CS2.
Q: Can you do design for clothing/posters/stickers/etc?
A: Sure can. Talk to meeee.
Q: What do you think about the (insert random camera name here) camera?
A: I grew up on Canons. So unless it is a question about a Canon 35 mm Rebel or Canon Digital Rebel, I probably will be useless to you.
Q: How do you get photo passes for shows?
A: I usually shoot my friends' bands. So usually through them.
Q: Can you get me a photo pass to ______'s show? Can you get me on the guest list for ______'s show? Can you give me ______'s phone number?
A: Hell no.
Q: How did you become friends with all of these bands?
A: You meet friends through friends through friends through friends.
Q: How do you pronounce your name? Why do you go by Jac?
A: JACK-LEAN VAN-ICK. Apparently the human population has a problem with pronouncing a simple, two syllable name. No one can really screw up Jac...or can they?
Q: What do you dye your hair with? Where do you get your hair done?
A: 20 volume bleach. Always bleach your hair professionally.
Q: I heard a rumor about you. Is it true?
A: 99% of the time...no. But I love hearing rumors, so tell me them. Hillarious.
Q: How much do you pay for your Sidekick? What does it exaclty do?
A: Isn't that what the T-Mobile website is for?
Q: Why aren't you answering my IMs?
A: I get dozens of random IMs a day. Be patient with me...
Q: I'm applying to college. How did you get into UCLA? How did you get a scholarship? What was your high school GPA?
A: You have to work the system. You need to find your strengths and build on them. College acceptance isn't all just GPAs and SATs and numbers and grades. I applied through UCLA's Design|Media Arts Major by sending in a portfolio of my work. I had a 4.2 GPA in high school, which is good but not great. There were many kids with 4.4s who didn'tget in. You need to differentiate yourself from everyone else. Make
them see how special you are.
