Amusingly, a few days ago, I read in the Yuri ML a review of the most recent books of the manga - the ones telling the story that will be animated in this new series 'Dragon Destiny'.
I know most of you have watched the anime Ikkitousen, but how many of you, I wonder, have read the manga?
The TV anime show adapts only a small part of the manga, about three or four volumes. There's much more to the story! I myself have read up to volume 11! (I just got it the other day... hehe, yeah, even I fork out money and buy books from time to time! ^.-)
And, as the story goes on, the yuri goes on too. ^^ Just like in the arc that was animated, the continuation of Ikkitousen is full of yuri as well! ^_______^
The first volumes (and the anime) were mostly about the "Kingdom of Wu", Sonsaku, Ryomou, Koukin and the others, and their fight against the modern versions of "Dong Zhuo" and "Luu Bu" (the last one being a girl and servicing us with tons of yuri goodness!). The following volumes are about the other two kingdoms, "Wei" and "Shu", and all the fights and intrigues the reincarnated heroes of those kingdoms get involved into.
In the original novel, the Shu's are the main good guys, the ones who have right, justice and virtue on their side -- so of course, they had to play a big role in this manga! The most important characters in Shu are leader Liu Bei, strategist Zhuge Liang, and warriors Guan Yu and Zhang Fei; and, in Ikkitousen, they are:
Liu Bei: Ryuubi, a meganekko with huge breasts. A total airhead with a pure, innocent heart full of love and compassion for everything and everyone (since Tsukino Usagi, there's a tradition in anime that the leaders gotta be like that! ^.-).
Guan Yu: Unchou Kanu. I think she was in the anime for a cameo... Very tall, slightly dark-skinned, with really long black hair and the body of a supermodel, she's the hottest babe in Seito! (Seito is Shu in this manga) She fights with a big halberd.
Zhang Fei: Ekitoku Chouhi. A short girl with spiky black hair and boyish looks (and a very boy-like personality, too). She is most often seen with a bag of cookies or some other snack in her hands (she's like Limone in Simoun, hehe).
Zhuge Liang: Shokatsuryou Koumei, a loli-looking blonde who acts totally cold and unemotional (Japanese otakus sure love that old cliche, don't they?).
There's a lot of yuri going on among these girls. For starters, both Kanu and Koumei are head over heels for Ryuubi! ^.^ But she is completely oblivious to their feelings... and, you know, even if she wasn't like that, it's quite obvious that the one Ryuubi actually likes is Chouhi! ^_____^ Hehe, yeah, even though they are always arguing. ^^ ^^ But, sadly, Chouhi hasn't any interest in mushy stuff. ^^;; She is exactly like a shounen hero, all she ever thinks about is fighting and snacks... sigh... There's a short omake at the end of volume 11 in which Ryuubi in a Santa outfit goes around asking the other Seito characters what they want for Christmas. The boys (yeah, there are some) say stuff like "lots of booze" or "a girlfriend". When she asks Kanu, Kanu blushes beet red and replies that she has no time for such silly stuff! But a side note tells us: "Actually, she wants Ryuubi!! She is like 'Ryuubi LOVE LOVE' for life!!" Hehe. ^^ Then, Ryuubi asks Koumei; and, with a totally inexpressive face, Koumei says: "I want YOU, Ryuubi!" In the background, we see Kanu having a heart attack after hearing those words. ^^ But of course Ryuubi doesn't get the meaning of it and goes "Why, thank you, you are so cute, I too like you lots and lots, Koumei-chan!" Baka... ^^;; Oh, and, as it was previsible, when Ryuubi asks Chouhi, Chouhi says that she wants Santa to bring her a huge bag of cookies. -_-
