Bless'd is the man who hath not walk'd astray
In counsel of the wicked, and i' th' way
Of sinners hath not stood, and in the seat
Of scorners hath not sat: but in the great
Jehovah's law is ever his delight,
And in his law he studies, day and night.
He shall be as a tree which planted grows
By wat'ry streams, and in his season knows
To yield his fruit, and his leaf shall not fall,
And what he takes in hand shall prosper all.
Not so the wicked, but as chaff which fann'd
The wind drives, so the wicked shall not stand
In judgment, or abide their trial then,
Nor sinners in th' assembly of just men.
For the Lord knows the upright way of the just,
And the way of bad men to ruin must.

Блажен тот муж, что не идет к порогу
Совета нечестивых, на дорогу
Греховных не встает и не сидит
В собранье развратителей, а чтит
Закон господень, людям свыше данный,
О коем размышляет неустанно.
Он будет словно древо у воды,
Чьи вызревают вовремя плоды
И чья листва вовеки не желтеет:
Что бы ни делал он, во всем успеет.
Иной удел у нечестивца. Он,
Как прах, что ветром над землей взметен,
Пасть на суде господнем не преминет,
Его собранье праведных отринет,
Затем что путь им указавший бог
Путь нечестивых гибели обрек.

PSALM II.

Why do the Gentiles tumult, and the nations
Muse a vain thing, the kings of th' earth upstanil
With power, and princes in their congregations

Lay deep their plots together through each land
Against the Lord and his Messiah dear ?
Let us hreak off, say they, by strength of band

Their bonds, and cast from us, no more to wear.
Their twisted cords- He, who in heaven doth dwell,
Shall laugh ; the Lord shall scoff them : then severe

Speak to them in his wrath, and in his fell
And fierce ire trouble them ; but I, saith he,
Anointed have my King (though ye rebel)

On Sion my holy hill. A firm decree
I will declare; the Lord to me hath said,
Thou art my son, I have begotten thee

This day; ask of me, and the grant is made;
As thy possession I on thee bestow
The Heathen ; and as thy conquest to be sway'd,

Earth's utmost bounds: them shal t thou bnng full low
With iron sceptre bruis'd, and them disperse
Like to a potter's vessel shiver'd so.

And now be wise at length, ye kings averse,
Be taught, ye judges of the earth ; with fear
Jehovah serve, and let your joy converse

With trembling; kiss the Son lest he appear
In anger, and ye perish in the way,
ff once his wrath take fire, like fuel sere.

Happy all those who have in him their stay.

ПСАЛОМ II

Зачем мятутся столькие народы,
И ковы тщетно строят племена,
И восстают цари, и год от года

Все громче меж князей хула слышна
На бога и помазанника божья:
"На вечные расторгнем времена

Их узы, их оковы свергнем тоже"?
Лишь посмеется бог на небесах,
И поругается над этой ложью,

И в гневе скажет с яростью в очах!
"Я над моей святой горой Сионом
Помазал моего царя". И страх

Вселю я в сильных словом, мне реченным:
"Ты - сын мой, днесь ты мной рожден, и я
Тебя взыщу наследием законным.

Проси, и дам тебе я все края,
Все племена земные во владенье,
И, как сосуд скудельный, длань твоя

Их сокрушит за неповиновенье,
Жезлом железным сломит выю им".
Итак, учитесь, о цари, смиренью

И вразумитесь, вы, кем суд творим.
Служите богу с робостью душевной,
С боязнью в сердце радуйтесь пред ним.

Почтите сына божья, иль плачевно
Погибнете в пути вы оттого,
Что скоро вспыхнет в сыне пламень гневный.

Блажен, кто уповает на него.

PSALM VIII

O Jehovah our Lord, how wondrous great
And glorious is thy Name through all the earth'
So as above the heavens thy praise to set
Out of the tender mouths of latest birth.
Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings, thou
Hast founded strength, because of all thy foes.
To stint the enemy, and slack th' avenger's brow
That bends his rage thy providence to oppose.

When I behold thy heavens, thy fingers' art,
The moon, and stars, which thou so bright hast set
In the pure firmanent, then saith my heart,
0, what is man that thou rememb'rest yet,
And think'st upon him; or of man begot,
That him thou visit'st, and of him art found ?
Scarce to be less than gods, thou mad'st his lot,
With honour and with state thou hast him crown'd.

O'er the works of thy hand thou mad'st him Lord,
Thou hast put all under his lordly feet;
All flocks, and herds, by thy commanding word,
All beasts that in the field or forest meet,
Owl of the heavens, and fish that through the wet
Sea-paths in shoals do slide, and know no dearth:
O Jehovah our Lord, how wondrous great
And glorious is thy Name through all the earth !

ПСАЛОМ VIII

Сколь, господи, твоя безмерна слава,
Простершаяся выше звезд ночных,
Сколь имя божье всюду величаво!
Из уст младенцев и детей грудных
Исторгнул ты себе хвалу к печали
И скорби тех, кто на тебя восстал,
Чтобы твои хулители молчали,
Чтоб мститель дрогнул, враг бессилен стал.

Я мыслю, глядя на небо - творенье
Твоих перстов, на горний хор светил;
"Идет ли с ними человек в сравненье?
Как, господи, о нем ты не забыл?
За что он, грешный, лицезреет бога
И положил ты под ноги его,
Пред ангелами умалив не много,
Все дело рук твоих, все естество?

Над всем его поставил ты владыкой -
Над птицею, парящей в небесах,
Над вольным зверем в чаще леса дикой,
Над рыбою, резвящейся в волнах,
Над овцами, что в поле щиплют травы,
Над чудищами мрачных бездн морских..."
Сколь имя бога всюду величаво,
Сколь славен он во всех краях земных!
