He is the protagonist of the television anime series Mobile Suit Gundam SEED and an important character in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny. In the Japanese anime he is played by Soichiro Hoshi and in the English dub he is played by Matt Hill.

In Gundam SEED, Kira was a first-generation Coordinator who lived on the neutral space colony Heliopolis. An expert in computer science, he helped with research at the college he attended. In both Gundam SEED and Gundam SEED Destiny, his friendship with Athrun Zala formed one of the main themes of the story.
