Date Of Birth 22 March 1986
Place Of Birth London, UK
Hometown Bournemouth, UK

Amy Studt was born to a violonist and conductor (father) and a head of music at a school (mother). She grew up in Bournemouth, southern England and started teaching herself piano, playing guitar and learning the oboe. At age 14, Amy had written 42 songs. Her father, who regularly works in studios, suggested to record some of them. She gave or sold the finished CD to several friends, and one landed on Simon Fuller’s desk.

At age 16 (July 2002), she released her first single, Just A Little Girl. The single peaked at number 14 in the UK charts. In the United States, it is the only well-known release of Amy, and she is generally considered a one-hit wonder there.

In 2003, Amy’s debut album, False Smiles was released as well as her second single, “Misfit”, which reached a peak at number 6 in the UK charts. Misfit is Amy’s most successful single to date. Her third single, “Under The Thumb”, also released in 2003, reached number 10 and helped push her album to a peak of number 18. In an attempt to sell more copies of the album, “False Smiles” was re-released at the beginning of 2004 with one new track, a cover of Sheryl Crow’s “All I Wanna Do”. The song peaked at a discouraging #21 and the re-release of the album also failed to improve sales, not even reaching the Top40. Failing to sell enough records, her record label Polydor dropped Amy. After some silent time, Amy signed to Simon Fuller’s independent label, 19, in 2006.

A new single, “Furniture” was released on 3 December 2007. Other new material could be listened to through MySpace. One of the new tracks, “My Paper Made Man”, can be heard fully at the MySpace account of music producer Guy Sigworth. Amy Studt’s own MySpace, has featured several new songs, starting with four (live) previews, called “Sad Sad World”, “Furniture”, “One Last Cig” and “Tree”, but it currently features “Furniture” fully, as well as four previews of the songs “Nice Boys”, “She Ran”, “Chasing The Light” and “Sad Sad World”.

The new album “My Paper Made Men” was released as a digital download on 5 May 2008, and a physical release followed on 2 March 2009.
