Made a Captain in March 1893. He was seconded for sevice as Adjutant of the 1st Volunteers Btn of Northamptonshire Reg in May 1896. He served in the Boer War obtaining the Queens South Africa medal with a clasp for the Tranvaal. He was moved from a supernumery Captain to Captain in Nov 1901. Retired on retired pay on 11th March 1903.

8.Lt Arthur Daryl Middleton Winner Hockey Cup 1913
Appointed from cadet at Sandhurst to Northamptonshire Regiment as 2Lt. Promoted to Lt Dec 1912. As a Lt he went to France with B Coy on 6th Nov 1914. Promoted to Captain in Oct 1915. At Battle of Aubers Ridge he commanded B Company and attacked just after 6am. They tried to move forward but were met by a hail of fire, he was wounded in the attack which saw a total of 426 casualties in the Battalion.
