Недавно узнала, что в школу на конкурс надо писать рецензию по книге. Выбрала обожаемую "Гордость и Предубеждение" Джейн Остен. Старалась..Может и не очень зато от души))

“Pride and Prejudice” is a great classic novel by Jane Austen who is known all over the world. This book does not let anybody be indifferent. Having read this fascinating book once, you will never prefer any other novel to it.
The story is set in the eighteenth-century England. It is about Bennet family which consists Mr. Bennet, Mrs. Bennet and their five grown-up daughters who aren’t married. Mrs. Bennet is silly enough to spend all her time dreaming to see one of her daughters in a wedding dress near the altar as soon as it is possible. Three youngest girls don’t deserve much attention. They all are tactless, willful, thoughtless, selfish and presumptuous. Besides, two of them are mad about the officers. These four members of family, including Mrs. Bennet, don’t make Mr. Bennet’s family life happy. But he isn’t disappointed and practices his sarcastic humor on them. Two eldest daughters are his favorites. They both are well-mannered and smart, witty and beautiful. But especially Mr. Bennet appreciates Elizabeth whose mind is similar to his one. And Jane is very trusting. “With your good sense, to be honestly blind to the follies and nonsense of others!...To be candid without ostentation or design - to take the good of every body's character and make it still better, and say nothing of the bad - belongs to you alone,” – says Elizabeth to her and it is the truth. Lizzy on the contrary is very reasonable. I think Jane Austen created all the characters of the novel so different in psychology that any reader has got a brilliant chance to compare very many qualities and maybe compare himself with the characters too. Psychology is the most important part of the novel. Notice that Jane Austen doesn’t describe the nature a lot and she does it only to show better the state of Elizabeth’s mind at the moment.
I think that the title of the novel isn’t chosen without any reason. Actually two main characters, Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy embody Pride and Prejudice. Mr. Darcy seems to be very proud and Eliza is prejudiced about it so it is a really difficult way to being together for them. Mr. Darcy has to control his pride and disperses all the doubts about his character by his behavior. After that Lizzy overcomes her prejudice and, having felt shy for it, changes her opinion about this young man.
I like Jane Austen’s style of writing very much. The old English language is so beautiful and original! And this inexpressible atmosphere in the book gives a chance to feel yourself in that far time, to try that lifestyle, to take part in different journeys and even to have a dinner with counts.
But the novel is topical nowadays. This story tells us that all people are different and shows us how much relations between them depend on their behavior. We can learn many lessons from this book which are useful in our time.
