A method for use in advertising includes initiating playing of interactive content, suspending playing of the interactive content, displaying an advertisement, and resuming playing of the interactive content. A computer program product includes a medium embodying a computer program for causing a computer to perform these operations, and a system for use in advertising includes a display and a processing system configured to perform these operations.

1. Field of the Invention

The present invention relates generally to advertising, and more specifically to advertising in interactive content, such as video games and the like.

2. Discussion of the Related Art

One traditional form of advertising is the television commercial. Such television commercials typically consist of brief advertising spots that range in length from a few seconds to several minutes. The commercials appear between shows and interrupt the shows at regular intervals. The goal of advertisers is to keep the viewer"s attention focused on the commercial.

Advertising has also been used in video games. Such advertising often takes the form of advertisements that are inserted and placed on billboards, signs, etc., that are displayed in the scenes of the game.

It is with respect to these and other background information factors that the present invention has evolved.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

One embodiment provides a method for use in advertising, comprising: initiating playing of interactive content; suspending playing of the interactive content; displaying an advertisement; and resuming playing of the interactive content.

An apparatus and method provide for generation of a gradient or other image pattern based on a captured image. In one example, a portion of a displayed image may be selected. Computer generated images and graphic designs have become increasingly complex. Computer users, graphic designers and illustrators have used various tools to produce a variety of effects in computer generated images. For example, graphic designers often create artwork containing objects filled with predefined gradients in which blending of colors create surface effects on rendered objects.

Typically, gradients are predefined within a vector-based illustration application and a user may select from a list of such predefined gradients. The selected predefined gradient may be applied to an object of interest by the user such that the object may be filled with the selected gradient. A portable memory storage device is disclosed where access to information on the device is granted only upon proper biometric authentication of a user. The device includes a controller, a non-volatile memory which may be a flash memory, and a biometric scanner system for controlling access to the information within the non-volatile memory. Each of the controller, non-volatile memory and biometric scanner system may be mounted in a base of the portable device, with the biometric system having an exposed surface on a top portion of the base for accepting biometric data such as a fingerprint. A cover is provided which includes a USB connector capable of mating within a USB port of the host device to establish communications between the portable and host devices. The cover also covers the exposed portion of the biometric scanner to protect the sensor when the portable memory storage device is not in use.

Abstract:


A system for automatically verifying an incoming telephone number. In response to detecting an incoming communication, a determination is made as to whether a telephone number associated with the incoming communication matches one of a plurality of telephone numbers in a storage unit. In response to determining that the telephone number associated with the incoming communication does not match one of the plurality of telephone numbers in the storage unit, telephone number verification rules are applied to determine whether to continue with the incoming communication. In response to a determination not to continue with the incoming communication based on the telephone number verification rules, an alert is provided.

A system for populating a telecommunications switch with data for call processing is provided. The system includes a map of a transaction and a component operable to process the map. The map of the transaction has commands to be sent to provision at least one telecommunications switch. The transaction commands include at least some parent and child commands. The child commands have processing that is dependent on one or more related parent commands. The map identifies dependencies between the child commands and related parent commands. The component is operable to process the map such that the parent commands that have dependent child commands are communicated to the appropriate telecommunications switches before the dependent child commands.
