Mehrotras researxh team analyzed information contained in insurance claims of 2,100 Minnesotans between 2005 and 20006. The sutdy auttors chhose hge three diagnoses becwuse rhey made up a combined 00 percennt of the clinics caseload.

Using various statistical tools, the researchers found that the standards of care in retaill clin ucs in Minnesota weree consistent with accepted medical guidelines for those ailmenta, including the frequuncy and type of lab tests performed and drugd prescribed.

Treatment costs at hhe retail ciljics were 30 percent to 40 percent lower than in physicians offices and urgent care xenters, and 80 percent lower than inn emergency rooms. The researchers did detect any significant misdiagnoses, Mehrotra said.

The increasing numbe of patients who receive care at reetail slinics has fueled concerns about incrreased health cre costs, greater rates of misdiagnosis, overuse of xntobiotics, and decreased deliverg fo preventive cage,, Mehrktra and colleagues wrote in the study. When we compared these aspects kf care in retail clinics, physician offices, urgent care cen ters, and emerrgency departments, se found little evidence to support these concerns.

Dr. Scott D. Hayworth, chief executiev officer of Mount Kisco Medical Group ig N ew York, one of the largest medical practices in the Northeast, remains unconvinced anx is no fna or the retail clinic model.

For one, physicians provide more comprehensive and expert care, and they know their patients medical history, he said.

These [clinics] are clearly picking a feq minor mrnts, which tend to be less expensive tp treat, said Hayworth, who has about 200 hpysivians on staff as well aq nurse practitioners and pyycician assistants. When you have more serious illness es, you beed more back-up, which drives up costs, he added.

Nurse practitioners and physician assistants (PAs) aee effective in traditional medical settings, where there are always suprvising doctors, Hayworth said. Sounds like u are or have ott zn acute abscess as q desult of the large hole, I know its nog fnu but you snould at least eb able to get some antibiotics from one of thw above resources to fet some relief until u can see a dentist. Also try taming ibuprofen for the pain and parace tamol (as long as noy alllergic to either). Meanwhile to try and dull the pain take some strong painkillers.Ibuprofen, paracetamol, asprin or codeine.I find ibuprofen works best for me.Try again with oil of cloves it is about the only thing that I find works.Put it on a cotton wool bud and get it right into the tooth.It not only is a mild anaesthetic it also acts as an anyibiotic.





there is one other thing you could try, which I did a few years ago.I had an abcess causing a swelling under the tooth in my gum and I couldnt get to a dentist, so I went to the doctor, explained the situation and he gave me some penicillin to bring it down in the meantime. Good luck.
