High end boutique style you can make yourself! Our French Market Tote will make a bold fashion statement as you stroll the open air markets of Provence, France... or the aisles of your local farmer's market and specialty grocer. Load it up with fresh baguettes and bouquets of bright flowers. The pièce de résistance is the great Coco Chanel style chain and leather (faux leather in our case) handles. It's the perfect synergy of unique trim and dramatic fabric blended to achieve a designer look. We love to show you how to look at combinations from a new angle, mix textures and look for unexpected pairings.
Oh! is for Ollie and Olivia Owl. This adorable stuffed pair is wondering, "Whoooooo wants a hug?" We provide all the pattern pieces you need to make one, two or an entire parliament. Yep... a group of owls is called a parliament. They must be wise indeed. Our thanks to the Soft Stuff Experts at Fairfield Processing for sponsoring today's cute owls. We used their Poly-Fil® 100% Premium Polyester FiberFill. You may be under the assumption that all fiber filling is created equal, and you just punch it in, like you're stuffing the Thanksgiving turkey. "Oh No!" says wise Olivia Owl. For a smooth, professional finish that's super soft and huggable, you must start with a quality filler. One that is resilient, washable, and will not bunch. Then, you need to take the time to fluff that quality filler and insert it, in small handfuls, into all the nooks and crannies. We have a good tutorial on Pillow Stuffing Tips & Tricks.
The traditional Thanksgiving table usually features a tablecloth, but we think placemats are a fresh take on tabletop convention. Our set of four mix-and-match placemats blends eight gorgeous colors and designs fussy cut from Joel Dewberry's Heirloom collection. Last week, we featured our Festive Cook's Apron, which was also done in Heirloom. It broke records across Social Media for likes, shares and pins. So, we knew we had to show off these great coordinating placemats. There's also a link to the matching napkins and ties. I think it's going to be a very vibrant Thanksgiving this year!
THIS GREAT GIVEAWAY CLOSED 11/15/13. THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO PARTICIPATED.
It's your lucky day, Sew4Home ghosts and goblins! We've put together a mystery treat bag full of fabric – from cozy fleece cuts to a layer cake of pretty sewing themed cottons. And... who knows what else might lurk inside!! Why all these treats and no tricks? We're celebrating an amazing run of new members in our Social Media communities. It's our way of saying thanks for spreading the word about Sew4Home to your friends and families.
A heart-shaped bib, pretty ruffles rimming the edges, darts and pleats, all in the perfect combo of candy pink and orange sherbet. This, my friends, is a fun, flirty apron. And we make no apologies for the all-out "girly-girlness" of it. Tangier Ikat is the latest collection by Dena Fishbein of Dena Designs for FreeSpirit Fabrics. The Damask style design we chose has a classic Ikat treatment where the edges appear to bleed into the background as if done with brush strokes. This ornate, wallpaper type motif was a perfect palette for fussy-cutting. The bib is a match to the skirt right through the waistband, and the pocket blends into the skirt with only a ruffled top to give it away. If you're new to fussy cutting, we offer links to our full step-by-step tutorial as well as other projects that feature exact pocket matching.
Here's a little secret about a duvet. People who don't sew are really impressed when you tell them you've just finished making duvet for your comforter (immediately after you explain what a duvet is). When this happens... simply smile, accept the ohhhs and ahhhs, but do not go on to explain that a duvet is really just a giant bag. There's nothing wrong with being impressive! Besides, we've amped up the awe-inspiring potential by creating a unique patchwork design with big, beautiful blocks of solid color in a Mondrian style of random intersecting rectangles. This clean, modern look is also referred to as Color Block, which is very much on-trend with the latest in home décor. We used a selection of calming colors from Michael Miller's Cotton Couture collection. With 118 colors of Cotton Couture solids to choose from, including 28 new tones that came out this Spring, you're sure to find the perfect combination for your bedroom.
Wild Child! That's the name of the folk art inspired collection on which these exuberant Jane Sassaman ribbons are based. This is Jane's first collection with Renaissance Ribbons and it's a perfect fit. Intricate detail is a hallmark of all the Renaissance woven ribbons, and it's crucial to achieve the depth of color and design in this rich collection. Jane describes it as being, "Infused with 'Flower Power'." The folklore feeling immediately came through for us, and we were inspired to combine the bright ribbons with a festive red denim highlighted with white piping and white tufted buttons on each end. The finished bolster reminds us of a cozy Scandinavian sweater, and makes us want to curl up on the couch with a cup of hot cocoa. It's a great style for the holidays, but because the ribbon designs don't contain any specific Christmas motifs, you could keep it on display throughout the winter season... or until the cocoa runs out.
When you're eating on-the-go at outdoor tables or food courts, do you ever wonder where to sit or put your food? Sometimes those surfaces look a bit questionable at best. And, experiments with cold and flu germs (already everywhere this time of year) have shown they can remain active on hard surfaces for up to 48 hours. Yikes! Our set of mini laminated mats is the answer to helping keep things sanitary. Not only are they cute as can be, they roll up and secure with a wrap strap so they're easy to carry. Lay them out anywhere for a clean surface for your meal... and yourself or your kids. When done, simply wipe clean with a sanitizing spray.
Like your favorite pair of lounging pants or comfy sweatshirt, sometimes you just gotta have a loose fit. Today's pillow follows suit with a relaxed and roomy cover, but the real hero is on the inside. The luxurious Home Elegance™ insert is what achieves that perfect designer slouch. Sew4Home sponsor, Fairfield Processing makes the Home Elegance™ line of pillow inserts. If you want a great finished pillow, you need to start with a quality insert or filler, and these are our personal favorites to get a high-end look in a down-alternative. Home Elegance™ inserts have a 100% cotton, 300-thread count jacquard cover filled with a special 100% polyester gel fiber. To complete the pillow, we chose super soft colored denim as the backdrop for fifteen lines of decorative stitching on each side and coordinating tassels at the corners (yep... we have a tutorial for them). Most machines today feature amazing packages of decorative stitches. This is a great way to sample some of your favorites. Wouldn't it make a great holiday gift?!
