When Kai Hahto came to teach you some drumming technics (use of brushes) did you feel like going back to the days when you first started paying drums?

I wouldn't say "back to the days", but it was fantastic to get back to basics and to get somebody with more knowledge on drumming to give you some great hints. Kai is an excellent teacher and with his enthusiasm and positive spirit he makes you take everything out of the lessons.

Do you have scheduled band rehearsals? How often do you meet up? And do you also do stuff together outside of music?

We don't have regular rehearsals as a band. Before new albums and tours we gather together and rehearse a lot but outside that everybody are doing it on their own.
Some of us meet each others more often outside touring than the others. Me and Tuomas are living in the same area so we hook up together once in a while.

Creating Imaginaerum was a fantastic trip. We got to do many interesting new things and it's superb how they turned out to be. It's impossible to say which album is the best since they all are mirrors of their time and at that particular time they felt just right. Let's just say that I'm extremely satisfied on how Imaginaerum turned out to be.

I was a lot into sports and was actually quite good in it. Also music was (of course) quite high on my list of favorites. Additional to those two history classes were something I really liked. For a little while I actually even thought of going to study history into the university after the high school, but then got into my senses and did something else.

What's the latest tattoo you got inked? D'you have any ideas for future tattoos :P

The latest tattoo was done into my left arm in a form of my youngest daughter's name "Lara". No new tattoos planned at the moment, but getting a new tattoo has always been a quick process for me, so things might change in a short notice.

It's going very well, thanks for asking. It's basically identical to my previous sets so it was very easy to set it up the right way. And since it's easily THE best set out there how could I be but happy with it!

Hi! Our whole family was at the Icehall gig. It was absolutely great, as always!
What was that special drum Jukka played? Something I also noted was the instrument played by the guest musician � what was it? The sound was great. Wish you strength for the tour!

The show in Helsinki truly was a fantastic one! Somehow everything just went right.
The instrument I play in The Islander and in Nemo is called Cajon. It's a compact package that has it all! Maybe I should concider selling my drum set and just go with that...
The 6th musician on stage is Troy Donockley and the instrument he plays is called Uilleann Pipes. Those pipes are nowadays inseparable part of our sound!

I haven´t done any solo work (so far) but there are the finnish "Raskasta Joulua" project and the band "Sapattivuosi" that I´ve done albums with. "Raskasta Joulua" is a Christmas song project were we´ve arranged these traditional songs into symphonic metal. Sapattivuosi is a band that has done Black Sabbath songs in finnish. There´s two albums with another singer and one Dio era album "Ihmisen Merkki" were I´m singing.

I´m trying to keep myself open and the inspiration can come from basically anywhere. After that it´s just a matter of imagination and how far you can go with it. Songs and music can definitely teach people. When an idea touches you, you are changed, even just a little, for good.

I love my musical tastes, gothic and metal. In my town musical tendencies are very different. The music hasn't the same poetry and depth of Scandinavia's music. It's just a "series of rhythm" and the more lyrics are indecent the more a song is successful. I know this "kind" and I don't like it. But at the same time everyone prejudice me because I am different. I don't want to change, I am happy as I am but it isn't correct to judge something without knowing it. What do you think about?

Hey, i have to ask you about your voice, cause im the singer in a band and i want to know, how do you make your voice so powerfull? And second, is it true that you are the most metalhead guy in the band? Cause im also the metalhead guy in ours... Thanks for your time and your music, Im a great fan too...

I´m seen by a lot of people as the metalhead of the band, but we all like it and a lot of other things as well. When I was a kid I rehearsed singing with old Rainbow and Judas Priest albums. Our vocal equipment was poor and I had to be loud to come through when the band was playing. Your voice just gets strength the more you do it.

I have a serious case of mistrust with religions or ideologies and such. They´re all giving excuses for people to turn their nose up and be an a**hole to other innocent people. Crusades, Guayana, 9 11, Manson. Involve the politics and it´s even worse. This universe, however, is a mystical place. Every atom in your body was born in a heart of a star. When you say something you send out ripples and waves that will last until the end of time. What you do here and now might be insignificant, but it will affect the outcome of the whole universe anyway.

Definitely not the end. We all have quite a good idea of what the next album will be about. You don`t need to go bigger and bigger with each album, the key is to find a new HOOK, or "challenge" with everything you create.

2. Both have their advantages, the small venues have the lovely intimate feeling, large arenas make more noise and becomes one huge living organism at its best. Festivals are not really my cup of tea.
3. Attitude. Realizing the fact how privileged I am to be doing this. Living in the moment, taking care of others and trying to spread the happiness. Doctors then take care of the mortal illnesses.
4. I`m very curious indeed! Not religious. I trust in the gospel of doubt and wonder. It`s often the pride of mankind which makes them think they have all the answers. I rather live in mystery and have an open mind towards everything.
Faith sometimes makes a virtue out of not thinking.

My question is, now that you have experience in recording with Nightwish, was the process smoother? And how much influence did you have in the writing of the new album, musically or lyrically?

it was easier this time in many ways. First of all, since I wasnt the new singer this time and didnt have to be nervous in the studio and feeling the "pressure" of making a fool of myself;=) Also, the songs were made for me this time and Tuomas had gotten to know my vocal range and where I find it easier to sing and also the album are more in the "musical" and theatrical way of singing now which is more my style. Regarding the writing of the album I didnt have any input and that´s mainly because in the band Tuomas is our songwriter and comes up with the ideas and the songs. Then the arrangement process are done with everyone in the band but due to me having my baby the guys had to arrange this album themselves.

What is the most difficult song to sing in the Imagianerum album for you? :)

There´s no song that is so hard I cant do it but there´s always the thing with some songs where I have to change from different vocal styles very quickly and also some songs have so much words that are overlapping and live that can be a bit "tricky". But one song that is a bit harder to do due to the different ways of singing it is Rest Calm. First I sing with my harder power voice and then I need to go directly into the very soft chorus with lots of words that overlap one another. So that is a tricky one;=)

Hi! Well, it is my plan to release it someday but I really dont know when exactly. I have the tour now for some time and then I also want to finish my studies in the university the coming years so we´ll see if and when I have the time for it. I do not want to make it a hasty work cause I love my songs and I also want to work with great people who arent just doing music for money, but for loving what they do. So we´ll see when, but thanks so much for liking the demo songs;=)

No, I mean, we discussed before the tour about certain style and colours to be used for Imaginaerum and I follow those "rules" but mainly I try to use fun and creative stuff and clothes that I like. There´s some outfits that I try that I then feel arent working but also many that will be there for several shows during the tour. I do not like to have the same outfit every single evening so that is why I change.

Hi! Thanks for your kind words;=) Well, I didnt do anything specific, just getting in to the theatrical aspect of singing, like when I have done musicals. Going in to the different song and asking Tuomas if there´s a special "person" or feeling I need to go in to before and when he has told me I just explore and try different things until its there or Tuomas says: thats it!;=)

Hi! I have many dreams;=) One was to sing full-time and I do that now. One was to have kids and I have that now too. Other dreams are there and I am sure I´ll try to fulfill them in the future. If I succeed or not doesnt matter cause I believe its important to have dreams and goals in life;=)

Hi! Well, I dont know. It sounds like a lot when you write it like that, and it is, but I think that if you love what you do you´ll find the energy for it all. And I like positive stress in my life. Hi Lydia! Well, I really dont like internet due to these reasons. Its so easy for people to write mean things and not standing up for who they are. They would never say it to your face but its so easy to write it down and then hide behind the anonymity of internet. I cant say how to cope with it cause it does hurt and the only way to not get upset or sad is to stay out of internet. And think that these people are like bullies in school, jealous and inscecure little people who doesnt have anything else to do than mock others to feel better. Its their way of feeling better and feeling they are cool and have power. But in reality they are nothing. Stay strong and know you are perfect just as you are and you dont have to even consider their remarks. Live your life and enjoy it and be a nice person to others. Take care;=)

We are very sorry to announce that, despite all the legal efforts in the past years, Nightwish's cover version of "The Heart Asks Pleasure First" can not be released to the public. Unfortunately, due do a mishap in the recording studio, it has recently been released as a bonus track on the latest single "The Crow, The Owl And The Dove". Oopsie.
To avoid legal consequences, we must kindly ask the fans who purchased the single that they immediately remove the track from the CD. To do so, please follow the simple steps described below.
Before you begin, make sure you have the following items at hand:
- Your "The Crow, The Owl And The Dove" CD
- One permanent marker, black
- One standard atomic force microscope
A CD contains of spiral tracks made up by "pits" and "lands", as seen in this image. To locate the songs on your CD, you will need to count the spiral tracks, beginning from the CD's inner circle. As those tracks are fairly small, using your atomic force microscope is recommended.
1. To remove song #2 from your CD, locate track 8219. The song is 4834 tracks "wide". Carefully mask those tracks with your black marker.
2. Removing song #5 works in a similar way. Simply count up to track 21982 and mask the following 4802 tracks with your black marker.
3. Gently blow on the CD to allow the ink to dry. To not use a hair dryer or microwave oven for this.
