Close to 4 years ago, they started building a big steel wall in a part of the old harbor here in Reykajvik
and after its completion, they drained the sea from the walled-in part and soon it became obvious that the building of the much awaited concert and conference centre was starting. For the longest time, all you could see was a giant hole in the ground, with lots and lots of cranes hovering over it.
Since I have thing about cranes, I often photographed the site (not many of those photos were ever shared, though, because although it soon became obvious that something big was being built there, it still looked like a monstrosity out of place in the centre of town.
Now at last, the end is in sight - the building is supposed to be finished in about a year - and its final shape is finally emerging. I'm sure this won't be the last of the thing you'll see here, but this is how it looks now:
(this lattice work is still without the glass - it'll look like sort of glass cubes that change colour depending on how light falls upon it, and promises to be rather spectacular).

I was going to post something else, but then this morning, there were news of a large cloud billowing up from the recent eruption site. Apparently, according to experts, this is just steam - at least for the time being - and there are no indications that the eruption is starting again. Rather spectacular, though, innit?:

During the worst of the winter blues last winter, I made the mistake of thinking that the photography bug was dead, and gave my camera to my sister. I've been missing it ever since.
Haven't really tried this one out fully, and only got the required processing software yesterday, so...
